The Future of Freelancer
« on: May 03, 2006, 02:10:24 PM »
Well FREEPORT 7 has been nearly deserted for the past couple months.
It seems that ever since we moved the server under the [MwM] umbrella,
player activity levels have dropped severly.

It seems that when the server transferred ownership, people assumed the
server was shutting down permanently, and found a new home.
We tried to communicate this information that is was not the best we could
but alas people did not get the point.

I have been paying for our server out of my own pocket for months now.
I'd be happy to continue the server providing people actually played on it.

So I'm left with what I see 4 choices:
1.) Keep everything up and running, and find some new bodies to help restart
the group so to speak.
2.) Keep our group up and running, but shut down the server, and
we all play on someone else's server.
3.) Abandon Triangulum all together and convert the server to another
Total Conversion MOD.
4.) Shut down the server and the group.

I would like both our members and the general public to vote on this topic,
and post your heart felt comments on the subject.
I'm also open to the possibilities of other options, if you feel you have
something enlighten me, let me hear what ya' got.

Before I'd consider shutting down FL altogether I'd keep this discussion open
for an entire month (till June 1st). If I recieve very few responses, or
the general consensus is to close the group down the kill date will be Monday, June 5th.

To save this group and this server I must have a minumum of 10-15 people
committed to restarting the group from scratch. I also will require a few
people to make monitary pledges to help support the server. The reality
is we need $65 per month but I'm not even saying we need it all.
I simply want a see some commitment to this group, and I would be
willing to continue to help support it for a bit to help it get back off the ground.
The reality is I personally don't have the time to rebuild this group myself.
So it will require some folks to step up to the plate to preserve this group.

Therefore, I leave the fate of one of the former TOP 10 most active Freelancer
Servers in the WORLD, and one of the largest FL clans ever in your hands.

Well i hate to say it but im freelanced out... playing the game for hours for over a year and a half, i knew everything there was to know there was no challange and no exexcitement, and i didnt like going to other servers because i didnt know anyone there. So when i reformated my computer i never reinstalled it, I think though that if we where to bring in a TCM though that it would change things, and that might bring intrest back in for alot of us and while id like to say we control a server if we had to all go to X server and play that would be fine too i guess... still would like our own to tweak.

Just to point out, the clan is not going anywhere, this is simply to decide if FL will continue to be a supported game.

I'd also like to point out that there are two games coming out later this year we are very interested in supporting.

Crap, I was hoping I could participate with in the beta testing for that game (it looks really good), but, you need to live in the EU for it....

Well darn. I just restarted a character on FL. Can't help financially yet, still waiting for appeal for disability.

Well guys, what was the final decision about the future of the server? Will the server be changed on a TCM server or it will be shut down?

Even though I don't belong here, IMHO, you should try converting it for a month or two, then see if it is really worth it.
